Men’s Tennis claims victory over Northwood Friday

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's tennis team snapped a 17-match losing streak Friday, defeating Northwood 4-3. The Huskies earned their four points with singles wins in the three, four, five, and six slots.

"That was such an awesome win for the men's team," Tech coach Kristin D'Agostini-Yep said. "We came out with big energy but unfortunately went down 1-3 in the score. All the singles were incredibly well fought and 3-6 singles came in clutch."

Leon Sell got Tech its first point of the day with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Kuzma Zubrii in No. 3 singles. Adam Fenjiro was victorious over Leon Grassnickel 6-1, 6-3, Nikolai Prosjanykov took down Amaan Tezabwala 6-2, 6-3, and Landon Coates wrapped up the win over Thomas Ladwein 6-2, 6-2.

Jack Lin and Nikolai Prosjanykov earned a 6-4 doubles win over Alessandro Parigi/Max Wild in the No. 1 spot.

In the women's match, the Timberwolves won 4-3 over the Huskies.

"We were so close on the women's side today," added D'Agostini-Yep. "We started off well with getting the first doubles point of the year but just couldn't hang onto it."

Emily Cojocaru and Emily Rose won 6-3 in No. 2 doubles over Yuliia Khmara / Danijela Danilovic while teammates Chiara Heinz and Bella Bigari took a 6-1 victory over Brigitte Gomez / Regan Fales in the No. 3 spot.

Chiara Heinz won her second match of the day 6-3, 6-2 in No. 5 singles over Yuliia Khmara. Marina Fernandez also came out on top 6-4, 1-0 at No. 6 singles.
