Ferris State Tennis Teams Sweep Longtime Rival Northwood In Regional Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams garnered a home sweep on Sunday (Feb. 18) as both squads defeated longtime rival Northwood in regional play at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldog women's team secured a 4-3 victory while the men's team posted an impressive 4-0 triumph over the Timberwolves.

In the women's match, the Bulldogs took the initial doubles point with wins at all three flights before coming back to claim the bottom three singles positions. The match came down to six singles where Ferris State's Kennedy Dumas pulled out a 6-2, 6-3 win to clinch the contest.

"We got back on the winning side with a great win over Northwood," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "Sweeping the doubles was huge for us since we've been trying to find our way in doubles play. It came down to six singles and Kennedy pulled out the win for the clinch."

The Bulldog men also swept Northwood in doubles action for the first point and picked up wins in the first three completed singles matches at the one, two and fourth flights to garner the victory and move to 2-1 overall this year.

The Bulldogs will be back in action at home next weekend with the men playing host to Grace (Ind.) on Friday (Feb. 23) in a 2 p.m. (ET) tilt. Both squads will then host Lewis on Saturday (Feb. 24) and Hillsdale on Sunday (Feb. 25) in regional play.
