Baseball Downs Alma 12-1

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball team picked up a 12-1 victory over Alma Tuesday night (May 3).

Northwood is now 24-21 overall on the season. Alma falls to 23-13 with the loss.

Alma got on the board first with a run in the opening inning. After a slow start in the game at the plate, Northwood got things going in the third inning with a pair of runs. The Timberwolves then scored six in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth to round out the win.

The Timberwolves out-hit the Scots 19-8 in the game. Northwood had four doubles, one triple and a pair of home runs. It was a clean game overall – there were no errors and just three walks overall (two for NU, one for AC).

Cody Kuzniczci (Madeira, Ohio/Northern Kentucky) and Daniel Pulver (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) led the way for Northwood in the game, combining to go 9-9 with four runs and four RBIs. Kuzniczci went 5-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs. Pulver went 4-4 with a walk, a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Brooks Ullery (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) and Ben Balgaard (Fenton, Mich./Howell) each came off the bench to hit home runs in the contest. Seven different Northwood pitchers combined to allow one run on eight hits. Lennon Gwizdala (Bay City, Mich./Central) picked up his second win of the season, allowing one hit while striking out four in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Northwood will host its final home series of the season starting Friday (May 6) with a doubleheader against Lake Erie. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
