Baseball Claims 5-2 Victory Over St. Joseph's College

RECAP: Northwood's Ian Dimitrie tosses a complete game as the Timberwolves defeat St. Joseph's College by a score of 5-2.  

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• An odd start to the game in the top of the first inning saw Northwood with runners on first and second and Daniel Pulver at the plate. Connor Foley was on second, and Robert Spencer on first. The two runners took off to swipe second and third, when the throw to third got away, Foley advanced home and appeared to score, but an interference call negated the run. The Pumas would go on to escape the inning unharmed and the game remained scoreless.
• The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Timberwolves plated a run after David Vinsky lead off with a single and later scored on a Nick Palmer RBI single.
• The Pumas responded immediately with two in the fourth to grab a 2-1 lead.
• Northwood wasted no time in regaining the lead with two of their own in the top of the fifth. Richie O'Neil started the inning by getting hit by a pitch, Foley then doubled to right, and the Timberwolves were in business with runners at second and third and nobody out. After an RBI groundout by Robert Spencer to tie the game, Daniel Pulver found a hole on the right side singling in Foley to put Northwood on top 3-2. The inning continued with a single by Grant Bridgewater but a great throw home by St. Joseph's right fielder, Brendan Rivera caught Pulver at the plate and NU settled for two in the inning.
• The Timberwolves weren't done yet, in the top of the sixth inning, two walks to start the inning by Javier Martinez and Nick Palmer, followed by an RBI groundout two batters later by Richie O'Neil and an RBI single by Connor Foley pushed Northwood in front by three runs, 5-2.
• From there, it was the Ian Dimitrie show as the junior went on to shut down the Pumas the rest of the way for his first career complete game and first victory of the season and the Timberwolves earned the 5-2 win.

GAME NOTES

• The complete game for Ian Dimitrie is the first of his collegiate career and the first for Northwood this season.
• Northwood has now won four consecutive games, and five out of six to start the Florida trip.
• Northwood's five runs were comprised of five different players registering one RBI.
• The two runs for St. Joseph's is tied for their lowest run total in a game, they had been held to two runs one other time this year, a 2-1 win over Tiffin University.
