Baseball Earns Two Wins Over Saginaw Valley Out of Three Games On The Day, Taking Season Series

RECAP: Saginaw Valley explodes for seven runs in the first inning, and control upon resumption of the postponed contest to earn 12-1 win in game two of the doubleheader.  

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

• Northwood was their own worst enemy in the bottom of the first of game two as Saginaw Valley sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven runs on six Northwood walks.
• The game was postponed due to darkness in the bottom of the third inning.
• When the game resumed, Saginaw Valley held control 7-0. Northwood scored one in the top of the fourth on an RBI by Nick Palmer to make it 7-1, but Saginaw Valley responded with three in the home half, and one more in the fifth and sixth to cruise to the 12-1 win.

RECAP: Javier Martinez and David Vinsky power the Timberwolves combining for all 7 RBI to take game one, 7-3 at Saginaw Valley.  

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

• After a scoreless first for both teams, Northwood's Javier Martinez led off with a solo blast over the fence in left-center to put Northwood up 1-0.
• The Timberwolves came back in the top of the third with a three spot to make it 4-0. Richie O'Neil led off with a walk and would come around to score on an infield single by David Vinsky. Then, it was again Martinez who provided the big hit with a two run double to left field, putting NU up 4-0.
• Kyle Vedrode was solid on the mound earning the win and holding SVSU scoreless in four innings of work.
• Saginaw Valley plated two runs in the home half of the sixth to make things interesting at 4-2, but in the top of the seventh, after the first two runners reached, David Vinsky belted a three-run big fly to put Northwood in front comfortably, 7-2.
• A phenomenal diving catch in the field by Daniel Pulver on a line-drive highlighted the three outs to close the book on the Cardinals in the bottom of the seventh, resulting in a Northwood win, 7-2.

RECAP: Langenfeld, Bain, and Gwizdala combine to hold SVSU to three hits as the Timberwolves cruise to a 7-1 win over Saginaw Valley to earn the sweep and take three of four from the Cardinals on the season.     

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

• Northwood picked up right where they left off scoring two runs in the top of the first as Javier Martinez continued his solid day. With two on, Martinez laced a double off the fence in right field that scored Connor Foley and David Vinsky who had both singled and Northwood led 2-0.
• Saginaw Valley scratched across a run in the bottom of the third to make it 2-1, but Langenfeld remained strong on the mound in 5.1 innings of work allowing just the one run and limiting Saginaw Valley to three hits.  
• In the top of the sixth, Northwood upped its lead on an RBI double by Brian Dombrowski scoring Javier Martinez, and the Timberwolves led 3-1.
• Max Bain and Lennon Gwizdala were both strong in relief for Northwood holding the Cardinals in their 3.2 innings of work, and in the top of the ninth, the Timberwolves added four runs of insurance to gain the 7-1 advantage.
• In the four run ninth, Northwood batted through the order, as Brian Dombrowski was hit by a pitch to lead off and later scored on an RBI single by Robert Spencer. After a Richie O'Neil walk, Connor Foley then singled home Spencer for the second run of the frame. With two still aboard, Daniel Pulver cleared the bases with a two-run double, and The Timberwolves ballooned to six at 7-1.
• Gwizdala put the Cardinals down in order in the ninth to seal the win for Northwood and the season series win over SVSU.
