GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ohio Dominican grabbed the first lead of the game in the top of the second. After a Kyle Burson one-out double, he was moved to third on a Noah Bland flyout and subsequently scored on Cody Paterniti's RBI infield single making it 1-0 Panthers.
  • The Panthers were able to add onto their slim lead in the sixth. Justin Childers doubled to left down the line to start the inning, and Colin Kaucher reached on an error to put runners at first and third with no one out. That set the table for a Genesis Hilliard two-run double extending the lead to 3-0.
  • In a game of few chances, NU starter Ian Dimitrie made sure he held Ohio Dominican in check giving up just three runs on six hits. However, Northwood was never able to get to ODU's starter Matt Kittelberger as he tossed a complete game shutout to earn the win for the Panthers.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood got their first runs of the day in the home of half of the second. After Daniel Pulver singled to right field, Javier Martinez walked, and Brooks Ullery bunted for a single, Northwood loaded the bases with nobody out. Brian Dombrowski walked on four pitches for an RBI, Robert Spencer grounded out for an RBI, and Ullery beat a throw home from Kyle Burson making it 3-0 Timberwolves.
  • Ohio Dominican came back quickly in the third with one run, but Northwood starter Matt Pearsall was able to limit the damage and allow just a sacrifice fly after having runners on first and third with nobody out.
  • The Timberwolves countered with a run in the home half. David Vinsky laced a single to right, and Javier Martinez doubled to left down the line to score him from first to bring the lead back to three at 4-1.
  • The Panthers opened the top of the fifth with a bang to chip away the lead. Tony Evans hit a solo home run to left, and Kaucher singled home Childers after he doubled in the previous at bat to make it 4-3.
  • Northwood built their lead back up in the sixth. Robert Spencer whistled a single up the middle and Travis Janes soon followed.  Richie O'Neil brought one home on an error by Sponseller, and Connor Foley followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-3.
  • The next inning Northwood aimed to tack on more insurance. After Kyle Ziegler doubled to left center and Dombrowski lined a single to left, Spencer put the ball in play to score on an RBI groundout to make it 7-3.
  • The Panthers did not go quietly, however, as they answered in the top of the fifth. Brad Hull's single to left field was sandwiched between two walks, and Childers moved all runners up with an RBI single to make it a three-run game. A Joey Machuga walk and Genesis Hilliard sacrifice fly soon cut the lead to 7-6 before the Timberwolves got out of the fifth.
  • Northwood tacked on more insurance in the bottom half of the eighth in response to Ohio Dominican's surge. Foley doubled to left field, Vinsky singled to second base, and the former ended up scoring on a passed ball to make it 8-6. With two outs, Dombrowski and Spencer followed with two-out, two-run singles. Janes singled in one more to put the game out of reach at 13-6 and cap off a six run inning.

"I don't feel like we played our best baseball this weekend but we did a very good job competing and bouncing back in game two both days. We will need to work hard to prepare for final exams the next couple of days and we'll be excited to get back to practice to prepare for our final series."
