Football Earns 17-3 Win Over Michigan Tech

INSIDE THE GAME

• After two drives for each team that ended in punts, Northwood got on the board first in their third. On the fifth play of the drive, quarterback Joe Garbarino used his legs to scramble for 36 yards down to the Michigan Tech eight-yard line. The next play, the redshirt freshman used his legs again to cap off the six-play drive with an eight-yard rushing touchdown to put NU up 7-0 with 5:04 to go in the first quarter.
• Northwood would go three-and-out on their next two drives, opening the door for Michigan Tech to get on the board. Starting with good field position, the Huskies settled for a 28-yard field goal by Josh King to make it 7-3.
• It appeared MTU about to take the lead late in the third quarter. The Huskies got a 30-yard pass play to the NU three, but Charles Proctor (Bay City, Mich./Western) made a big play on defense. Proctor, who started his collegiate career at Michigan Tech, knocked the ball out of the hands of the Huskies receiver, which went out of the end zone for a turnover and Northwood ball at their own 20 yard line.
• Near the end of the third quarter, Northwood thought they had lost possession on an interception. However, an offside penalty and unsportsmanlike conduct infraction tacked on put Northwood at the Michigan Tech 26-yard line with the ball in their hands. Unable to advance further, kicker Keegan Haggarty was given the chance to put the Timberwolves up by seven, and he did with a 36-yard field goal to make it 10-3 to close out the third quarter.
• Up by seven in the fourth quarter, Northwood was looking to put the game away. Corey Burdgick came up with the big play that did just that. Up the left sideline, he found a hole and went 77 yards for a touchdown that the Timberwolves up 17-3 with 6:38 left in the fourth quarter. That TD proved to be the final score of the game.
