Men's Basketball Falls To Indianapolis 88-79
The Northwood University men's basketball team fell to 1-2 on the season with an 88-79 loss to Indianapolis Saturday evening (November 16).
The game was the home opener for the Timberwolves. Indianapolis improves to 2-0 with the victory.
NU set the tone for the game right away, scoring the opening five points of the contest. Indianapolis drained a three and registered a dunk just before the first media timeout to take the lead 10-8. Northwood took over from that point, leading by as many as 16 before settling for a 48-37 lead at the break. Northwood shot 67.9 percent from the floor in the half (19-28), including 54.5 percent (6-11) from beyond the arc. Indianapolis finished at 44.1 percent (15-34) in the opening 20 minutes.
Indianapolis was the better team in the second half, opening play on a 23-4 run to take a 60-52 lead. The Greyhounds would lead by as many as 13, but Northwood fought back to get within five at 82-77 with 1:30 to go. That is as close as the Timberwolves would get, as UIndy converted on six of the final eight points.
For the game, Northwood shot 47.5 percent overall (28-59) while Indianapolis finished at 54.5 percent (36-66).
Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake) led the way for the Timberwolves. He finished with a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds, for his fourth double-double of the early season. Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind./Morristown) added 21 points and five assists.
Northwood returns to action Saturday (November 23) against Concordia-St. Paul at Winona State. That game gets under way at 1 p.m.
