RECAP: Northwood opens their 2016-17 season with a 93-69 exhibition loss to No. 9 Michigan State Thursday night (October 27).

INSIDE THE GAME

  • Northwood did a good job to open the game, scoring the first six points of the game. With less than five minutes remaining in the first half, MSU led 30-27 but Northwood had out-rebounded the Spartans 19-9 to that point. A late push by the Spartans gave MSU a 48-35 lead at the break.
  • Michigan State held the lead at the break thanks to strong shooting – the Spartans shot 56.7 percent overall (17-30) and 54.5 percent from 3-point range (6-11). Northwood ended the opening half at 39.4 percent overall (13-33) and 4-14 from 3-point range (28.6 percent).
  • Northwood continued to hang tough in the second half, using an 8-0 run to get the lead down to 61-54 with 11 minutes to go in the game. The MSU lead was 68-59 with just over eight minutes to go when the Spartans finishes strong. Michigan State scored 25 of the final 35 points to close out the game
