Lance Maney was hired as an Assistant Coach for the 2025-26 Northwood men's basketball season.
Maney brings championship experience, player development expertise, and a proven history of success at the junior college level.
He joins the Timberwolves following a historic run as head coach at of the Women’s Basketball program at Mid Michigan College. In three seasons leading the program, Maney led the Lakers to an 89-14 record, a string of program firsts, and national recognition. The team won three straight conference championships, three straight MCCAA State Championships, three NJCAA Region 12 Championships and three consecutive National Tournament Sweet 16 appearances. Maney led the program to a seventh-place national finish in 2024-25. He earned MCCAA Coach of the Year and NCJAA Region 12 Coach of the Year three times and BCAM Coach of the Year in 2022-23.
After coaching boys and girls high school & travel basketball for four years in South Florida, Maney returned to Michigan during Covid to coach the at his Alma Mater, Shepherd High School. He spent two seasons as the Varsity boys coach at Shepherd, helping them win their first district title in 12 years. At the same time, Maney was an assistant coach with Mid Michigan men’s basketball team focusing on player development.
Maney is also the founder of REAL Basketball, a Michigan-based training and travel team program focused on skill development, leadership, and mentorship for youth players. REAL hosts year-round training camps and clinics and had 20 travel teams for boys and girls in 2025.
A two-year basketball player at Mid Michigan College, Maney went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in psychology & Philosophy from Central Michigan University. He also claimed his master’s degree in Sports Administration from CMU.
