Men's Soccer Earns 2-1 Win over Walsh

INSIDE THE GAME

• In an opening half with very few chances for each team, Walsh made the most of theirs in the closing minutes of the first half scoring a goal off a rebound to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
• The beginning of the second half resembled that of the first half with neither team mounting much offensively.
• The match took a turn when Walsh received a red card with just under 30 minutes to go, Northwood had the man advantage for the rest of the half and took advantage of it. Midfielder Zachary Bakos made his way into the middle of the box with a loose ball coming right to him. Gathering the ball with his right foot, he controlled it and fired it past goaltender to tie the game at 1.
• Just 78 seconds later, Bakos worked his magic again. With the ball loose at the right side of the net, freshman Ben Campbell headed the ball back into the middle of the crease where the junior was lurking. The ball rolled right onto the goal line, where Bakos in the midst of two defenders buried it for his second goal of the game to give the Timberwolves the lead.
• Northwood would hold on from there and preserve the 2-1 victory at home in GLIAC play.

GAME NOTES

• Northwood is now 6-1-1 against the Cavaliers since 2013 with the one tie coming in the last meeting.
• With his sixth and seventh goals of the season, Bakos has taken over the team lead with his second game winning goal, the only Timberwolf to have multiple game winners this season.
• Goaltender Brendan Brundirks picked up his second win of the season to move to 2-0 on the season, getting credit for the victory after replacing Brown at the start of the second half.
