Men's Tennis Defeats Walsh 5-3

CANTON, OHIO – The Northwood University men's tennis team opened its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a 5-3 win over Walsh Sunday (April 3).

Northwood has now won four straight matches to stand at 5-4 overall, 1-0 in the GLIAC. Walsh falls to 8-8 overall, 2-2 in the GLIAC.

Doubles was extremely tight at the top of the lineup. Walsh won 8-5 at the No. 3 slot while the top-two matches each went to a tiebreaker. The Cavaliers won the No. 2 match, while Northwood came out on top at the No. 1 position to give Walsh a 2-1 lead heading to singles.

The singles matches were close as well, but Northwood proved to be the better team. The Timberwolves won four of the five matches that were completed. Two of the matches went three sets while five sets went to tiebreakers.

Sebastian Equez led the way for Northwood, going 2-0 on the day with wins at the No. 1 doubles and single positions.

Northwood will host Findlay Saturday (April 9). Match time is set for 10 a.m.
