Men's Tennis Drops 6-3 Match To Grand Valley State

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 contest to Grand Valley State Sunday afternoon (April 17).

Northwood now stands at 7-6 overall, 3-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Grand Valley State improves to 13-6 overall, 6-1 in the GLIAC.

Doubles proved to be the key to the match, as the Lakers claimed victories at all the matches to earn a 3-0 lead heading into singles. NU dropped a pair of close matches in doubles – 8-6 at the No. 2 position and 9-7 at the No. 3 slot.

Northwood was much better in singles, winning straight-set matches at the top-three positions in the lineup. But the Lakers, who only needed two wins in the six singles matches to claim the overall victory, won at the bottom three flights. The matches at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions each went the full three sets.

Northwood will travel to Wayne State Wednesday (April 20). Match time is set for 1 p.m.
