Men's Tennis Loses At Wayne State 5-4

DETROIT, MICH. – The Northwood University men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 contest to Wayne State University Wednesday afternoon (April 20).

Northwood falls to 7-7 overall, 3-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Wayne State improves to 10-11 overall, 5-2 in the GLIAC.

The three doubles matches features a pair of tight matches at the top of the lineup. After WSU picked up an 8-3 win at the No. 3 match, the final two contests came right down to the end. Northwood earned a 9-7 win at the No. 1 match to level the score 1-1, leaving the No. 2 match on the court. The contest went to a tiebreaker, which was won by Wayne State 9-8 (8-6) to give the Warriors a 2-1 advantage heading to singles.

In singles, the two teams split the six matches, with Northwood coming out on top in the top three matches and the Warriors in the bottom three flights. WSU won at the No. 6 and the No. 4 matches, but Northwood responded with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to cut to the Warriors lead down to 4-3. Wayne State then clinched the overall win with a victory at the No. 5 match. Northwood rounded out the day with a victory at the No. 3 position.

Sebastian Eguez and Austin Woody each went 2-0 on the day to lead the way for Northwood.

Northwood will travel to Tiffin Thursday (April 21) for a 2 p.m. match.
