Track and Field Teams Compete at GVSU Open

RECAP: The Northwood University track and field teams were back in action this weekend as the two teams competed at the GVSU Open on Friday (January 20) with both teams earning a fifth place finish overall out of 12 teams.  

INSIDE THE MEET

  • The Northwood men's team was one of 12 teams that competed at the meet. The Timberwolves earned a fifth place finish overall as a team. The women's team was also one of 12 teams that competed at the meet and also earned a fifth place finish overall.
  • Fresh off of earning GLIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performances last weekend, Rami Gharsalli continued the impressive start to his Northwood career with another  first place finish, earning the honors in the 60 meter Hurdles with a time of 7.93.
  • Gharsalli's time of 7.93 is the best in the country at this point for the 2016-17 season, and ranks second all time in the Northwood track record books.  
  • For Alexander McIntosh it was also a memorable performance as the senior captured a new personal best in the men's shot put with a toss of 14.68m (48-02.00) ranking him fifth all time in school history
  • On the women's side, Jennifer Mckenna continues to climb up the Northwood record books to second all time in school history as she turned in a time 2:15.89 in the 800 meter run marking a new personal best for the senior as well as the 18th best performance in the entire country.
  • Madison Arnouts turned in a notable performance for the Timberwolves as she hit two personal bests, first in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.36 which is also good enough for second all time in school history. She also captured a time of 59.12 in the 400m Dash ranking her fifth in school history in that event.
  • Hannah Gearhart notched a new persona best in the weight throw with a toss of 13.91m (45-7.75) and a 10 foot improvement of her personal best which is also good enough for fourth in the Northwood record books.

The Timberwolves will compete at the Findlay Classic on Saturday (January 28.) The event is being hosted by the University of Findlay.
