Track and Field Teams Compete at Raleigh Relays, Set Two New School Records

RECAP: The men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State. Two school records were set and five NCAA provisional marks were achieved by the Tiimberwolves.  

INSIDE THE MEET

  • Northwood's Tyler Jensen had a performance to remember in the men's 10K. The senior added to his decorated collegiate career by setting a school record with a time of 30:38.19, 19 seconds faster than the previous record. The time was also an NCAA provisional mark and a personal best for Jensen.
  • Jensen's record wasn't the only school record broken over the weekend. The relay team of Elaina Meadows, Drew Findlay, Madison Arnouts, and Kara Young reached new heights for Northwood in the women's 4x200 meter relays. The team's time of 1:42.08 marks a new Northwood school record.
  • Jennifer Mckenna carried the momentum from her tremendous indoor season into the first meet of the outdoor season with a performance to remember in the women's 1500. The senior notched a personal best by over 16 seconds with a time of 4:37.79 and the school's fourth best performance of all time.
  • Carly D'Almeida threw a personal best in each one of her tosses in the women's hammer throw and finished with her best throw of the day – a 51.1 meter heave that ranks second in school history, and is a 15 meter improvement of her personal best.
  • Paul Evans also continued the momentum from his outstanding indoor season with two NCAA provisional marks in the men's discuss and men's hammer events. The junior registered a 51.5 mark in the discus and a 55.6 meter toss in the hammer event.
  • Cody Patterson threw an NCAA provisional mark of 55.40m in the men's hammer, marking a seven meter improvement from his previous best and the fourth best mark in school history.
  • Lastly, Rami Gharsali finished fourth overall in the men's 110 meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional time of 14.18 which ranks second in program history.    

Coach Michael Roberts:

"We did extremely well in some areas with two school records and five NCAA provisional marks achieved. With this being our first outdoor meet, we were a little flat in a few areas as the athletes adjust to different events and competing outdoors. Overall, I'm pleased with our effort as a team."

Northwood will travel to Oxford, Ohio on Saturday (April 1) for the Miami University Dual.
