Track and Field Competes At The NCAA DII National Championships; Gharsalli Earns All-American Honors

OVERVIEW:  NCAA DII National Championships                                                

EVENT: Women's 400 Meter Hurdles, Men's Hammer Throw, Men's Discus Throw, Men's 110 Meter Hurldes. 

LOCATION: Bradenton, Florida. IMG Academy

RECAP:  Track and Field closes out the 2017 season with three athletes competing at the NCAA DII National Championships at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.  

INSIDE THE EVENTS

MEN'S 110 METER HURDLES

  • Fresh off his GLIAC Championship earlier in the month, Rami Gharsalli competed in the men's 110 meter hurdles for Northwood. Gharsalli captured a sixth place finish at the NCAA DII Championships with a time of 14.00.
  • With his time, Gharsalli earned All-American honors for the Timberwolves. The time also ranks third all-time in Northwood program history.  

WOMEN'S 400 METER HURDLES

  • Representing the Northwood Timberwolves in the women's 400 meter Hurdles was GLIAC champion Maddison Arnouts. Arnouts ran a time of 1:03.78 in the preliminaries which ranks third all-time in program history.

MEN'S DISCUS THROW

  • Paul Evans registered a mark of 46.97 meters in the Men's Discus Throw at the NCAA DII National Championships. The toss of 46.97 ranks fourth all-time in the Northwood record books.

MEN'S HAMMER THROW

  • Paul Evans recorded a top 20 finish in the men's hammer throw with a heave of 58.73 meters. The mark landed Evans at #16 overall in the country and is also good enough for second all-time in the Northwood record books. Evans now owns the top two hammer throw marks in program history.

"Having representation from both our men and women's programs at the national championships is something very special for the Timberwolves. We walked away with one All-American and a great deal of experience. I am very proud of them for what they have accomplished and the experience they have gained while representing Northwood with integrity at the championships. Each athlete will be returning next year and I know that their focus and determination will be that much greater moving forward."
