Track & Field Has Numerous Athletes Set Personal Bests In Last Chance Meets

OVERVIEW

MEET: Last Chance Meets at Grand Valley, Oakland, Baldwin Wallace, and Lee

LOCATION: Allendale, Michigan/ Rochester, Michigan/ Berea, Ohio/ Cleveland, Tennessee

RECAP: In an attempt to improve scores and qualify for nationals, the Timberwolves' track & field teams began the last chance meet week this week at a variety of events including the GVSU's Last Chance (May 10), Oakland's Last Chance (May 12), the Harrison Dillard Twilight (May 13), and the Lee University Last Chance Meets (May 14).

With eyes on NCAA Championship invites, Northwood set new personal bests and continued to stay sharp.

GVSU 10 EVENT – LAST CHANCE

  • Zechariah Stickler cleared the 18m mark in shot, getting 18.02m. Stickler took first in shot and sixth in discus, where he got 48.70m.
  • Jessica Kursinsky competed in the shot, getting her best throw of 13.77m and taking fifth.
  • Taky Ezell cleared the provisional mark yet again in hammer throws. Her best throw during the event was 54.03m, good enough for second at the meet.
  • Nathan Powers was first among collegiate athletes with a 60.27 toss in the hammer.
  • Dylan Powers set a new personal record as he continues to creep up on the 60m mark. His 57.28m throw was over a meter further than his previous best and places him 37th in DII this season.
  • A few days after his GLIAC Championships winning long jump performance, Xzavia Price leaped 6.88m to take third.

OAKLAND LAST CHANCE MEET

  • Katherine Wozniak was the lone Timberwolf to compete at the event. Wozniak ran the 1500m as she was timed at 5:15.23.

HARRISON DILLARD TWILIGHT

  • In his final throw as a Timberwolf, Dylan Powers moved into sixth place in the NU record books for the hammer throw at 57.33m. It cleared the NCAA mark and finished what was a great career in the blue and white.
  • Nathan Powers finished his last chance meets with a 57.76m toss in the hammer to clear the NCAA mark and place fourth at the meet.
  • In the women's hammer throw, Ezell set a new personal best at 55.98m – good enough for 17th place in DII this season. The 1.08m improvement on her record gave her a first-place finish at the meet.
  • In the men's shot, Nemecek etched his name as fifth-best in NU history as he hit 16.33m. This was Will's best throw in outdoor shot put.
  • Kursinsky finished with a 13.32m mark in the women's shot put to cap off the meet.
  • Stickler finished with a 48.85m toss to finish fourth in men's discus.
  • David Kotliarker hit 55.73m in men's hammer throw.

LEE UNIVERSITY LAST CHANCE MEET

  • Andrew Wendler set a new personal best as he moved into second place in the program's 3000m steeplechase record book. Wendler crossed the line at 9:22.27, four seconds faster than his previous mark.
  • Zane Aldrich placed eighth in the men's 10k at 30:32.18.
  • Stephen Barker (1:50.90) and Josh Jones (1:50.96) were neck and neck during the 800m. Jones now moves into fourth place in the NU history books.
  • Chase Clark (3:57.38) and Dillan Haviland (3:57.99) ran for Northwood in the 1500m.

Northwood will gear up for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 26) that will be hosted by Grand Valley State.
