Softball Drops Pair At Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, MICH. – The Northwood University softball team lost a pair of games at Ferris State on Wednesday afternoon (April 19). NU fell 5-3 before dropping a 4-2 contest in game two.

The Timberwolves are now 16-18 on the year, 7-11 in the GLIAC. FSU improves to 28-16 overall, 13-7 in the GLIAC.

Northwood took an early lead on a Jennifer Wontorcik (Midland, Mich. / Midland) RBI to right field. The score remained the same until the Bulldogs plated a run the fourth to tie the game. After Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc./Mary D. Bradford) doubled to right center to lead off the sixth inning, she scored on a Danielle Bartodziej (Westchester, Ill. / Nazareth Academy) sacrifice fly to right. With a 2-1 advantage going into the bottom of the inning, FSU plated four in the bottom of the inning. The Timberwolves were only able to score one run in the seventh, despite loading the bases with one out to fall 5-3.

Northwood once again jumped out to a lead, plating one in the second and again in the third for a 2-0 advantage. Ferris State scored one in the fourth and three in the fifth to eventually win 4-2.

For the day, Tostrud finished with a pair of doubles, while Andria Gietl (Plymouth, Mich. / Ladywood), Ashley Lynn (Garden City, Mich.), Riley Ostapowicz (Grand Rapids, Mich. / West Catholic) and Lauren Look (Pinconning, Mich. / Pinconning (Cleveland State) each registered a double.

The Timberwolves travel to Lake Erie on Thursday (April 21) for a rescheduled game. The doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
