RECAP: Northwood opens their 2017 season with an easy win against Bellarmine before falling late to Trevecca Nazarene Friday afternoon (February 24). 

BELLARMINE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood got their season off to as good a start as possible, as senior outfielder Hayley D'Avilar homered in the first at bat of the season.
  • The Timberwolves extended their lead to 2-0 later in the first inning on an RBI single by Abby Joseph.
  • NU would blow the game open in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs. Meghan Franz and Danielle Bartodziej had RBI hits before Riley Ostapowicz capped the inning with a two-run homer.
  • The Timberwolves then closed the game out with a three-run fifth inning. Sydni Pauley hit a two-run homer, followed by a D'Avilar RBI single.
  • Bellarmine did not get their first hit off NU pitcher Taylor Wright until fifth inning, as the hurler picked up a win in her first start at Northwood.

  • The win came in the first career game for new Northwood head coach Gregg Sauve

TREVECCA NAZARENE HIGHLIGHTS

  • The game was scoreless into the third inning before Northwood broke through in the top of the frame on an Abby Joseph sac fly.
  • Northwood extended its lead in the fourth inning thanks to Pauley's second home run of the day, going up 2-0.
  • Trevecca did not register their first hit until the fifth inning, but that is when they began their comeback.
  • The Trojans scored one in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1. Trevecca then scored single runs in the sixth and the seven, both with two outs in the inning, to finish off the comeback win.
