RECAP: Northwood split a pair of games at the PFX Spring Games Friday (March 7), falling to Winona State 11-3 in five innings before defeating Illinois-Springfield 5-4.

WINONA STATE/NORTHWOOD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Winona State came right out firing in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs.
  • Northwood got a pair back in the second inning thanks to a Karli Godlewski two-run double.
  • NU then cut the margin down to one in the third inning on a Sydni Pauley sacrifice fly.
  • That would be as close as the Timberwolves would get, however, as the Warriors plated five in the fourth and two more in the fifth to close out the game.

ILLINOIS-SPRINGFIELD/NORTHWOOD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood got the early lead against Illinois-Springfield, scoring one in the second inning on a Godlewski sac fly.
  • The Timberwolves then made it 3-0 in the second thanks to a Riley Ostapowicz RBI double and an RBI by Jennifer Wontorcik on an error by USI.
  • Ostapowicz and Wontocik alos got RBIs in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Both players had sac flies in the inning.
  • Northwood needed all of those runs, as the Prairie Stars mounted a comeback in the sixth inning, plating four runs.
  • But after taking the loss in the morning, Norton came in and got the final five outs to pick up her first save of the season.
