RECAP: Northwood softball continued the Florida trip with games five and six of 12 on Saturday (March 9) versus Quincy and D'Youville. The Timberwolves fell to Quincy 6-4 before defeating D'Youville 10-0 in five innings.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood's offense came alive early in the top of the first. Ashlyn Lundquist singled to right center to lead off the game, and Gianna Fantin followed by drawing a hit by pitch. Lundquist would then score the game's first run off a Delanie Gale single just out of the outstretched arms of the pitcher, 1-0 NU.
  • Brittany Steimel cleared the bases with her fourth blast of the year after Gale's RBI single. Steimel's homer is her fourth over the last four games, giving the Timberwolves a 4-0 lead with no one out.
  • Quincy would answer right back, staying patient in the box. Northwood pitching gave up a single, walk, and a single to start the bottom of the first. Another walk two batters later put Quincy on the board, 1-4 NU.
  • The Hawks squared up two more singles to tie it back up at 4-4.
  • As quick as the Timberwolf offense started was as quick as the Quincy pitching took momentum. Northwood's offense managed just two hits over the final six innings.
  • The Hawks would add two more unearned runs behind two Northwood miscues to win 6-4.

  • Karlie Moore's bloop single to follow Binney put the Timberwolves' second run up in the first, 2-0 NU.
  • Jillian Krawczak kept the momentum going in the second, leading off with a single before stealing second. A Gabby Schloop walk put runners on first and second for Jordan to double home Northwood's next run, 3-0 NU.
  • A tricky single from Gale dribbled just past the pitcher far enough to plate another Timby run, 4-0 NU.
  • Up 4-0, Steimel broke it open in the second for the designated home team. Her second 3-run blast in as many games and fifth home run in the last five push the NU lead to 7-0.
