Track & Field Earns Three Spots At The 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships
MIDLAND, MICH. – Northwood University Track & Field is set to send three athletes to the 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships run from May 22-24 at Colorado St. – Pueblo in Pueblo, Colorado.
MEET THE ATHLETES
Northwood's throws squad produced two qualifiers in Will Nemecek (men's shot put) and Kelsey Hansen (women's shot put and hammer throw). Matheu Morrison (men's 110m hurdles) was Northwood's one runner, qualifying for his second NCAA Championships of his career. This is Nemecek and Hansen's first Outdoor Championships of their careers.
Nemecek is a two-time Indoor All-American in the shot put. The senior holds the No. 17 mark in DII and the No. 2 spot in program history with the 17.77m toss at GVSU's Extra Weekend Meet (April 26). He is the No. 17 seed ahead of the Championships and seeks to earn his third All-America honor and the first Outdoor All-America honor of his career.
Morrison's final meet of the year thrusted him into NCAA qualifying status. His season-best 14.02 mark came on the final day of accepted results at the GVSU Last Chance Meet on May 11. He is the No. 21 seed going into the Championships and seeks to earn his first PR of the season.
Hansen became Northwood's first female to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 2022, when Taky Ezell (Hammer Throw) and Jessica Kursinsky (Shot Put) qualified. Unlike the two previous, Hansen qualified for both the hammer and shot put events. Holding the No. 2 mark in program history for both events, she enters the Championships as the No. 15 seed with her 57.17m toss in the hammer throw at the G-MAC Championships (April 30) and the No. 22 seed in shot put with her 14.58m toss this past weekend on the final day of competition at GVSU's Last Chance Meet (May 11). Hansen seeks to be Northwood's first women's All-American in any event since 2013 (Madison Pines – 1500m).
