MIDLAND, MICH. - The Northwood University women's soccer team was defeated by Grand Valley State 3-1 on Friday afternoon (October 10).
The Timberwolves fall to 1-8-1 on the year, 0-6 in the GLIAC. The Lakers improve to 10-1 overall, 6-0 in the GLIAC.
NU held off four Grand Valley shots before taking their first of the match at 33:37. The shot by freshman Kayla Trevino (Findlay, Ohio / Liberty-Benton) gave Northwood a well-needed lift, as it soared over the keeper's head and into the back of the net. The Timberwolves held a 1-0 lead for the next 11 minutes, before the Lakers netted the equalizer with 0:36 remaining in the half.
Entering the second half tied, 1-1, NU surrendered a penalty kick in the 53rd minute to trail 2-1. The Lakers would net the final goal in the 82nd minute. For the match, NU trailed in shots (15-2) and corner kicks (8-0). Keeper, Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich. / Berkley) recorded five saves in the match.
The Timberwolves will travel to Ferris State on Sunday (October 12). Match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
