Chelsea Hunter Named Assistant Women's Soccer Coach

MIDLAND, MICH. – Chelsea Hunter has been named assistant women's soccer coach at Northwood University by head coach Dean Pappas.

Hunter joins the NU staff after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Bellarmine University for the 2015 season. The Knights finished the year 17-3-2, reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament. During her stint at BU, Hunter also worked at the club level as an assistant coach at the Kentucky Players Academy.

Prior to working at Bellarmine, Hunter coached at Kentucky Fire Juniors (KFJ) from 2010-2015. She was responsible for coaching youth, aging from U8 to U14 levels. She also worked as an intern with the Alliance of Women Coaches while in college. Hunter assisted the Director of Education with the NCAA & Alliance training programs in 2012.

Hunter had an extremely successful playing career both collegiately and professionally. After graduation, she played professionally in Finland with the Merilappi United in 2015. Hunter not only scored a goal at center defense but was also named team captain. In 2014, she scored three goals in 21 games with IK Myran, also in Finland.

Hunter graduated from the University of Louisville in 2013, after playing in 69 games with two goals as a defender. During her career, the Cardinals were the Big East National Regular Season Champions and made a NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2011. She was named NSCAA Second Team All-Northeast Region, Big East All-Tournament Team and Big East All-Academic Team in both 2011 and 2012.Hunter was also named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week in 2013 and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) at Louisville.

Prior to playing in college, Hunter also participated in the Olympic Development Program Region II Team from 2007-2009. She was a member of the Michigan Olympic Development Program from 2003-2009 and played for the Michigan Hawks Soccer Club from 1999-2009.

Chelsea is a native of Novi, Mich. and currently resides in Midland.
