Women's Soccer Advances To Great Midwest Championship Following 3-1 Win Over Findlay

RECAP: Women's soccer continued their Great Midwest tournament run on Thursday (November 9) in the semifinals versus 4-seed Findlay. The Timberwolves and Oilers matched each other at the half before the Timberwolves scored two in the second half to advance to the Great Midwest Championship.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Northwood looked to push the pace early controlling the ball for the first 15 minutes, owning the first four shots of the match.
- In the 27', the Timberwolves earned a free kick from just passed midfield. Carly Boyd's big leg came into play, a shot from the spot 40 yards out floated passed a mass of humanity in the box.
- With less than a minute in the first half, the Oilers clawed back into it. A free kick down in the near corner was crossed into the 6-yard box and scored on the far-right post.
- At the half, Findlay led 6-5 in shots with Northwood having a 1-0 advantage in corner opportunities.
- Northwood opened the second half taking the lead back with a goal by Juliana Paoletti in the 51'. A Boyd free kick from outside the right corner of the 18-yard box bounced through a wall of defenders to the crashing Paoletti on the left post.
- The Timberwolves continued to capitalize on offensive opportunities. A foul on Stephanie O'Keefe in the box gave NU the chance to go up 2-1, in the 60'. That penalty kick was taken by Paoletti who knocked it into the lower right corner, extending the Northwood lead to two.
- The Timberwolves' defense stood tall the remainder of the bout, advancing to the conference championship match for the first time in program history.

- Women's soccer moves on to the Great Midwest Tournament Championship. NU will play the 2-seed and No. 2 nationally ranked Ashland Eagles for the championship this Saturday (November 11) at Dean Field in Midland beginning at noon.
- NU previously faced the Eagles back on October 17, a match in which AU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. They eventually prevailed 2-0 as the Timberwolves were shut out.
