RECAP: Northwood women's soccer traveled to Kentucky for a battle with Thomas More Thursday evening. Northwood's Boyd sisters led the Timberwolves to a 4-1 victory on the road. Carly Boyd scored her 50th career point in the contest.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Northwood earned a quick 1-0 lead in the 6' after Carly Boyd's free-kick from the right side was headed in by Brooke Honeycutt to the lower right corner.
- The rest of the first half was taken by Thomas More. The Saints rattled off seven shots to the Timberwolves two over the final 40 minutes. They also led in corner opportunities 5-2, but NU led in scores 1-0.
- Whenever a free-kick opportunity comes, Carly Boyd is there to take it. She proved to be dangerous from anywhere on the field, adding another for the Timberwolves from 25 yards out on the left side. TMU's goalkeeper's dive back towards the net wasn't enough as she extended the Northwood lead to 2-0 in the 59'.
- Northwood's offense proved they can score and will shoot from just about anywhere on their offensive half of the field. The younger of the Boyd sisters, Ella Boyd, put Northwood out in front 3-0 in the 63' moments later. She scored via a 30-yard boot from the left football hash mark.
- In the 74', Northwood's Kendall Buchman gave NU the 4-0 advantage after a free-kick into the box resulted in a penalty kick for the Timberwolves.
- The Saints salvaged a goal in the 79' to make it what the final would be, 4-1.
- Carly Boyd's goal and assist gives for fifty career points as a Timberwolf, and she is now one shy of tying the career assists record at 23 (Julie Surma – 1999-2002). She is the 11th player in program history to eclipse the 50-career points threshold.
