Track and Field Teams Compete At GLIAC Championships
HILLSDALE, MICH. – The Northwood University track and field teams traveled to Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich. for the 2016 GLIAC Outdoor Championships Wednesday-Friday (May 4-May 6).
The women's team finished 14th overall with eight points. Grand Valley State took home the trophy with 183.5 points, while Hillsdale finished second at 110. Both Madison Arnouts (Grand Ledge, Mich.) and Hunter Perry (Moran, Mich. / Rudyard) broke school records and scored for the Timberwolves. Arnouts took fourth in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:01.28, while Perry finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 44.47 meters (145-11). Arnouts bettered a 2012 time of 1:01.78, while Perry's mark is also a school record, passing Savannah Stedman's previous mark of 44.24 meters in 2011. Kara Young (Zephyrhills, Fla. / Zephyrhills) finished ninth in the preliminaries of the 100 meter dash and broke the Northwood University record at 12.18, just past the 12.19 time ran by Danielle Miller in 2003. Young also improved her 200 meter time to the third best in school history at 25.10.
On the men's side, NU finished 14th overall with seven points. Grand Valley State men also took home the trophy with 190.5 points, while Tiffin finished second at 155. Jeremy Wilchcombe(Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges (NU-TX)) led the way for NU with a fifth place finish in the triple jump at 14.23 meters (46-8.25). Jordan Fields (Lauderhill, Fla. / Blanche Ely) qualified for the finals of the 110 hurdles at nearly an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14.93, but was unable to compete in the finals due to injury. Paul Evans (Lenox, Mich. / New Haven) finished ninth in the discus with a toss of 49.19 meters (161-5).
Members of the track and field teams will travel to Grand Valley State next weekend for the Second to Last Chance Meet on Friday (May 13) and Last Chance Meet on Saturday (May 14).
