Volleyball Drops Pair Of Matches At GLIAC/GLVC Crossover

AURORA, ILL. – The Northwood University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Mizuno GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Friday afternoon (October 17). The Timberwolves dropped a 3-0 match to Drury (25-22, 25-9, 25-23) before falling to Southern Indiana 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-13).

Northwood is now 6-11 overall. Drury stands at 11-8 overall while Southern Indiana improves to 14-6.

DRURY 3, NORTHWOOD 0

The Panthers won closely-contested first and third sets while dominating the second to sweep the Timberwolves. Drury finished the match hitting .252 (42-16-103) while holding Northwood to a .122 clip (27-15-98).  DU finished the match with nine aces and seven blocks, compared to NU with three aces and four blocks. Freshman Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) led the way for Northwood, finishing with 10 kills and a block.

SOUTHERN INDIANA 3, NORTHWOOD 0

Northwood's offense was better in the nightcap, hitting .207 overall (35-16-92). But Southern Indiana's offense was better, finishing at .258 (34-11-89). Blocking was also a big part of the Screaming Eagles win, as they finished with an 8-3 edge. The Timberwolves held a 39-33 advantage in digs, but had two aces and 10 service errors compared to five aces and two errors for USI. Getty finished with a match-high 12 kills in the match, while Meghan Cleary (Howell, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy) and Sydney Greulich (Kitchener, Ontario / St. Mary's) each added seven kills  

Northwood will finish the event with a match against Illinois-Springfield Saturday afternoon (October 17). First serve will be at 2 p.m. eastern time.
