Volleyball Wins Pair At North Alabama Invitational

OVERVIEW – FISK

RECAP: Northwood cruised to an easy 3-0 win over Fisk in their third match of the North Alabama Invitational.

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • Northwood opened the contest on a 12-2 run and scored six of the final seven points in the first set to take the early advantage
  • Fisk scored the first three points of the second set, but Northwood responded with eight straight points and eight of the final nine points to earn their second straight 25-12 win.
  • The Timberwolves led throughout the final set to finish off the sweep.

OVERVIEW – TREVECCA

SCORE: 
Northwood 3, Trevecca 2 (25-20, 24-26, 25-20, 21-25, 19-17)
RECORDS: Northwood (3-1), Trevecca (2-1)
LOCATION: Flowers Hall – Florence, Alabama (University of North Alabama)
RECAP: Northwood finished the opening weekend with a marathon five-set win over Trevecca, capped by a 19-17 win in the fifth.

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • Northwood used a 7-1 run after trailing 4-2 in the opening set to earn a lead they would not give up. Trevecca got no closer than three after the early NU run.
  • NU also got off to a good start in set two, leading 7-2. But Trevecca fought back, eventually levelling the score at 17-17. The two teams went back and forth until Trojans earned the set 26-24.
  • The Timberwolves took the lead for good in the third set early, going up 6-1 to start. NU led by at least three the rest of the set to go up 2-1.
  • In the fourth set, the score was tied 18-18 when the Trojans went on a run. Trevecca scored seven of the final 10 points to force a fifth set.
  • The fifth was extremely close throughout – neither led by more than two points. The Timberwolves had three matches points denied before Trevecca had a match point of their own at 17-16. Northwood responded big, claiming the final three points of the contest to earn the win.
