Volleyball Goes 2-0 On Final Day Of Midwest Region Crossover

RECAP: Northwood went 2-0 on the day at the Great Lakes Crossover Saturday (October 14), earning a 3-1 victory over Davis & Elkins in the morning before posting a 3-0 win over Quincy.
INSIDE THE MATCH - QUINCY
- Northwood used a late surge and a strong offensive attack to take the opening set. The teams went back and forth early, with the score eventually standing at 16-16. That is when the Timberwolves took over, scoring nine of the final 10 points. Seven of the nine points came on kills, leading the Timberwolves to a 25-17 win. NU's offense in the set was outstanding, hitting a season-best .481 (16-3-27). D&E ended up at .000 (7-7-29).
- NU kept the momentum going early in the second set, scoring nine straight points after trailing 2-1 to open up a 10-2 advantage. The Senators got no closer than seven the rest of the way while Northwood's final advantage of 25-10 was their biggest of the set. NU continued to be efficient on the offensive end, hitting .346 (12-3-26) compared to Davis & Elkins at -.036 (6-7-28).
- Northwood appeared to be on their way to a sweep, leading 15-8. But Davis & Elkins fought back, scoring 17 of the final 24 points to win the set 25-22. Both teams were solid on offense – D&E hit .281 (15-6-32), Northwood finished at .280 (10-3-25).
- After dropping the third set, the Timberwolves responded with a strong fourth frame to close out the victory. Northwood scored five of the first six points and later used a 9-1 run to open up a 21-9 lead. NU eventually won the set 25-12 and the match 3-1. The Timberwolves dominated the offensive stats in the fourth, hitting .364 (12-4-22) compared to the Senators at -.208 (4-9-24).

RECAP: Northwood posted a 3-0 win over Quincy to round out play at Midwest Region Crossover Saturday (October 14), giving NU a 2-0 record on the day and a 2-1 record for the event.
INSIDE THE MATCH
- Northwood started the match by scoring the first five points and cruised the rest of the way in the opening set. The Timberwolves held leads of 10-3, 15-5 and 22-8 before closing out the set at 25-12. Northwood's offense kept the momentum from earlier in the day, hitting .517 in the set (18-3-29). Quincy finished at .083 (7-5-24).
- The second set was tied 9-9 before a push by the Timberwolves broke things open. Northwood put up eight of the next nine points to make the score 17-10. The Hawks got no closer than four points the rest of the way, allowing Northwood to win 25-19 to go up 2-0 overall. NU finished the second set at .242 (13-5-33) while holding QU to a .143 clip (13-8-35).
- Quincy was the better team early in the third set, opening up an 11-6 lead early. Northwood chipped away at that advantage, eventually tying the set at 15-15. The Timberwolves then finished the match with a flourish – NU scored the final seven points to win the set 25-18. Northwood has another strong offensive set in the third, hitting .371 (16-3-35) compared to Quincy at .051 (10-8-39).
