ANDY CRIPE

1996-Present

Andy Cripe has had as big of an impact with Northwood University student-athletes as anyone in the history of the athletic department over a span of more than 25 years. He arrived at Northwood in January of 1996 as the head athletic trainer, a position he would hold for 19 years.  The longest-serving head athletic trainer in Northwood history, Cripe had a sterling reputation for his dedication and his passion for athletics. He continues to be a big part of Northwood Athletics in his role of Dean of Students, a role he took over in January of 2015. Above all, Cripe has been a tireless worker and supporter of Northwood students and athletes over his entire career.

RON HUNTER

Football/Men's Basketball

1998-2001

Ron Hunter stands as the greatest wide receiver in school history, holding records for career receptions (151), yards (3,478) and touchdown receptions (34). He currently has 1,476 more receiving yards than any other player in school history. Hunter's greatest individual game came in one of the most memorable wins in program history, finishing with 264 yards receiving and three touchdowns in a 79-49 Axe Bowl victory over Saginaw Valley. He finished his football career earning All-GLIAC honors all four years of his career, leading the Timberwolves to two GLIAC Championships (1999 and 2000) and the first NCAA Playoff appearance (2000) in program history. In his two seasons on the Northwood men's basketball team, Hunter averaged 10.7 points per game and was a key part of the first NCAA Tournament team in program history in 1998-99. At 21-7, that team posted the best record in school history.

JOHANNES STEROBO

2012-15

Johannes Sterobo was a standout in the classroom and as a goalkeeper for the men's soccer team at Northwood University. He owns nearly every goalkeeping record at Northwood, including career wins (45), save percentage (.765), goals against average (0.96) and shutouts (28). Sterobo also has the top-two season in totals in school history, winning 14 games in 2014 and 17 games in 2015. Both the 2014 and the 2015 team won GLIAC Championships and reached the NCAA Tournament. The 2015 team reached the regional final and ended the year ranked 10th nationally. A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, Sterobo was named the Capital One Division II Academic All-American of the Year in 2015. He is the only athlete in Northwood history to earn Academic All-American of the Year honors

CHRIS RUSHER

Men's Track & Field

1982-85

Chris Rusher earned the highest honor possible for a Track & Field athlete at the 1985 NAIA Outdoor Championships, taking home the National Championship in the shot put. On his final throw of the competition, Rusher had a toss of 17.29 meters to win the event by .02 meters. That win helped Northwood earn a ninth place finish overall as a team. Rusher had finished second in the indoor shot put at the NAIA Indoor Championships earlier that year with a toss of 16.61 meters. Rusher showed he belonged on the national level in 1984 in the shot put, finishing fifth at the Indoor Championship (16.5 meters) and sixth at the outdoor championships (16.71 meters). Rusher was a key part of the 1985 Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field teams that both took home GLIAC Championships.

MADISON (PINES) GOODSPEED

The 2013 GLIAC Champion in the 1500 meters, Pines qualified for the NCAA Championships six times in her career. She won the prestigious "Elite 89" award twice at the NCAA Championships, given to the student-athlete at the competition with the highest individual grade point average. Pines was also a four-year starter for the women's soccer team at left back and a captain of the 2014 team.  She joined the 2012 cross-country team for one race - the NCAA Regional meet. With just three days of preparation, Pines narrowly missed All-Region honors by finishing 26th out of 158 runners, helping Northwood to its highest team finish in program history (seventh). She was the valedictorian of the class of 2013, graduating in three years.
