Curry was previously the head football coach at Georgia State (2008-12), Georgia Tech (1980-86), Alabama (1987-89), and Kentucky (1990-96). Curry was named Bobby Dodd National Coach of the Year at Alabama and led the Tide to an SEC Championship and Sugar Bowl in 1989.

As a player, he played at Georgia Tech (1962–1964) and then in the NFL for ten seasons with the Green Bay Packers (1965–1966), Baltimore Colts (1967–1972), Houston Oilers (1973), and the Los Angeles Rams (1974). He also played for some of the greatest coaches of all time, including Vince Lombardi, Don Shula, and Bobby Dodd. His teammates included legendary players like Willie Davis, Bart Starr, and Johnny Unitas.

As an analyst, Curry worked for ESPN (1997-2007), serving as a longtime college football analyst and on-air talent for the station.
