MIDLAND, Mich. -- The first-seeded Wayne State University women's tennis team (11-0 overall, 9-0 GLIAC) swept No. 5-Northwood (5-6 overall, 4-5 GLIAC), 4-0, in the 2019 GLIAC Tournament semifinals on Saturday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
JuniorsÂ
Teodora Radu (Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) and
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) earned a tiebreaker win against Vasilisa Mikhaylova and Iryna Tryston at No. 2 doubles (7-6(2)).
At No. 3 doubles, junior
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and freshman
Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) notched a 6-4 victory over Ekaterina Vorobeva and Paula John.
Sophomore
Laura Cazacu (London, England) and junior
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) fell 7-5 to Kate Berestovenko and Elizaveta Velichko at No. 1 doubles.
SINGLES RESULTS
At No. 3 singles, Da-Silva tallied a win against Vorobeva (6-2, 6-3).
Radu swept Mikhaylova in her first set and edged her opponent in the second set at No. 4 singles (6-0, 7-5).
Sophomore
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) clinched the Warrior win at No. 6 singles against Anna Goncharova (6-1, 6-3).
Cazacu, Liong, and Laynes all had unfinished matches before WSU secured the win.
