Baseball Falls To Wayne State 18-8

The Northwood University baseball team dropped an 18-8 contest to Wayne State Sunday afternoon (April 7).

Northwood falls to 9-14 overall, 4-8 in the GLIAC.  Wayne State improves to 19-10 overall, 10-4 in the GLIAC.

Both teams got off to a strong start early on, as Wayne State plated three in the first while Northwood responded with a pair of runs.  The Warriors then went up 6-3 in the third, but Northwood chipped away at the lead over three next three innings.  NU scored one in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game at 6-6.  WSU responded with what proved to be the key stretch in the contest.  The Warriors scored two in the sixth and then nine in the seventh to put the game away.  WSU did not have an extra base hit in the nine-run seventh, but were aided by three walks and a pair of hit batters in the frame.

For the game, Wayne State out-hit Northwood 18-12.  Both teams committed two errors in the game.

Anthony Dipaolo (Northville, Mich./Divine Child) led the Northwood offense, finishing with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI.  Jason Fracassa (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) had a similar line to Dipaolo, finishing with three hits, a run scored and an RBI. 

Northwood will travel to Hillsdale for a doubleheader this Wednesday (April 10).  First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
