Baseball Drops 6-2 Contest To No. 2 Minnesota State

The Northwood University baseball team dropped a 6-2 contest to No. 2 Minnesota State Mankatoe Sunday afternoon (March 9).

Northwood falls to 4-4 overall with the loss. Mankato improves to 9-2 with the victory.

MSU plated one run in the second, two in the fourth and three more in the fifth to open up a 6-0 lead. The Timberwolves committed five errors, which led to five unearned runs.

Northwood got a rally going in the bottom of the ninth inning, plating a pair of runs. Eric Cotton (Troy, Mich./Jackson CC) drew a bases loaded walk, which was followed by a Steve Suriano (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich./Kellogg CC).

Jason Wimbury (Warren, Mich./Kaskaskia CC)) took the loss for Northwood despite allowing one earned run in 4 2/3 innings of work. Josh Long (Romeo, Mich. / Kalamazoo Valley CC), Adam Kroll (Marine City, Mich.) and Jake Semak (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) combined to throw 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Larseon Cronkright (Midland, Mich./Kellogg CC) led the NU offense with a pair of hits and a stolen base.

Northwood will return to action with a single game against St. Joseph's Tuesday (March 11). Game time is set for 9:30 p.m.
