Baseball Drops Pair At Walsh

CANTON, OHIO – The Northwood University baseball team dropped a pair of games at Walsh University Tuesday afternoon (April 1). The Cavaliers earned wins by the scores of 14-5 and 8-3.

Northwood falls to 10-11 overall, 3-5 in the GLIAC. Walsh improves to 12-15 overall, 4-5 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves took a 1-0 lead in game one thanks to a double steal by Travis Smith (Clare, Mich.) and Larsen Cronkright (Midland, Mich./Kellogg CC) to go up 1-0 in the first inning. But it was all Walsh the rest of the way, plating nine runs over the first two innings. The Cavaliers finished with 15 hits in the game, compared to eight for Northwood. Smith finished the game 2-2 while Justin Zyvon (Sterling Heights, Mich./Macomb CC) had two hits and two runs scored.

In game two, Northwood got off to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a passed ball which scored Tyler Beatty (Clare, Mich./Davenport). Walsh once again responded right away in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs. The Timberwolves cut the lead to one in the third inning on an RBI single by Smith. But the Cavaliers scored one in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth to put the game away. NU did get one run in the seventh on a Daniel Pulver (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) RBI single. The Cavaliers finished with a 12-8 advantage in hits for the game, while Northwood committed four errors. Pulver and Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) each finished with two hits.

Walsh and Northwood will play a single game Wednesday (April 2). First pitch is set for Noon.
