Baseball Falls In 10 Innings To UMSL 2-1

VIERA, FLA. – The Northwood University baseball team dropped a 2-1 contest in 10 innings to Missouri-St. Louis Friday afternoon (March 6).

Northwood falls to 2-1 with the loss. UMSL improves to 3-0 with the victory.

The Timberwolves got the scoring going in the second inning. Dylan Trimarchi (Pasadena, Calif. /Glendale CC) and then stole second base. Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) then drove him in on a fielder choice, putting Northwood up 1-0.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Tritons tied the game on an error, a single, a balk and a sacrifice fly.

Both teams had chances to plate the go-ahead run over the next few inning but were unable to take the lead. Northwood's best chance came in the top of the eighth inning when the Timberwolves had runners on second and third with nobody out, only to strikeout, ground out and fly out to end the rally. UMSL then earned the win in the 10th inning on a sac fly.

The Tritons out-hit Northwood 11-4 for the game, but UMSL left 12 runners on base to six for the Timberwolves.

Logan Meadors (Oxnard, Calif./Verrado) pitched well in his Northwood debut, allowing one unearned run in six innings of work while striking out three. Shawn Larner (Gladwin, Mich./Alma College) came out of the bullpen to toss three shutout innings as well.

Northwood will face Trinity International in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon (March 7). First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
