Baseball Drops 3-2 Contest To UMSL

VIERA, FLA. – The Northwood University baseball team dropped a 3-2 contest to Missouri-St. Louis Sunday afternoon (March 8).

Northwood is now 4-2 on the year, with both losses coming by one run to UMSL. The Tritons improve to 4-0 with the win.

UMSL got on the board in the first inning on an RBI double, but the Timberwolves responded immediately in the top of the second. After Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) led the inning off with a walk, Tanner McCarn (Olivet, Mich./Kellogg CC) hit his second home run to left field. His two-run shot put the Timberwolves up 2-1.

The score remained that way until the seventh inning, when UMSL got what proved to be the key hit of the game.  The Tritons got a one-out, two-run homer to make the score 3-2. Northwood got a runner on base in the eighth but were unable to plate the tying run.

For the game, UMSL finished with an 8-4 edge in hits and drew six walks to four for the Timberwolves. The Tritons left 12 runners on base to five for Northwood.

Four different Timberwolves each had one hit for the game. McCarn ended up with two RBIs, while Eric Cotton () had a double.

Luke Bivens (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) allowed one run in four innings while striking out seven Adam Kroll (Marine City, Mich.) tossed a pair of shutout innings in relief, while Larry Wood (Essexville, Mich./Garber) did not allow a run while pitching the ninth inning.

Northwood will play a single game against Minnesota State-Makato Monday afternoon (March 9). First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
