Baseball Drops Pair To Ohio Dominican

LEESBURG, FLA. – The Northwood University baseball team dropped a pair of games Wednesday afternoon (March 11) to Ohio Dominican. The Panthers won game one 6-1 before taking game two 8-2.

While both schools are members of the GLIAC, the games were non-conference contests. Northwood falls to 5-5 overall, while Ohio Dominican improves to 5-4.

The key to the game one win for the Panthers was the first two innings, where ODU scored six runs (four in the first, two in the second). Northwood got on the boar in the fifth inning thanks to an error by the Panthers. NU finished the game with just three singles. Larry Wood (Essexville, Mich./Garber) pitched well out of the bullpen for the Timberwolves, striking out four while allowing two hits in four shutout innings of work.

Game two started in a very similar way to game one, as the Panthers scored six runs in the first two innings (two in the first, four in the second).  NU got on the board in the fourth thanks to Daniel Pulver (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.). After a leadoff single, Pulver eventually scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead down to 6-1.  ODU responded right away, however, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 8-1. Northwood scored the final run of the game in the seventh thanks to a pinch-hit double by Eric Cotton (Troy, Mich./Jackson CC) that scored Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.).

After playing 10 games in the last eight days, Northwood will have Thursday off. The Timberwolves return to action Friday (March 13) for a doubleheader versus Minnesota Duluth. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
