Baseball Splits Doubleheader Versus Findlay

FINDLAY, OHIO – The Northwood University baseball team split a pair of games at Findlay Sunday afternoon (March 29). Northwood picked up an 11-0 win in game one before falling 9-7 in game two.

Northwood is now 9-12 overall, 3-3 in the GLIAC. Findlay stands at 6-15 overall, 1-5 in the GLIAC.

NU got on the board in the first inning of game one and never looked back. Northwood scored three in the third, three in the fourth and four more in the seventh to earn the win. Findlay did not get their first hit until the fifth inning and managed just three singles overall for the game.

Nick Barrientos (Zionsville, Ind./Danville Area CC) went 2-3 with an RBI and four runs scored to lead the offense. Dylan Trimarchi (Pasadena, Calif./Glendale CC) had two hits, three RBIs and a pair of stolen bases.  Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) and Travis Smith (Clare, Mich.) each had two RBIs, with Smith's coming on a two-run homer. Justin Zyvon (Sterling Heights, Mich./Macomb CC) added two hits and a pair of runs scored.

Luke Bivens (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) tossed a complete game shutout. He allowed three hits and zero walks while striking out seven.  It was the second career shutout for Bivens.

Northwood got off to a strong start in game two as well, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Timberwolves eventually led 5-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning only to see Findlay come back. The Oilers scored two in the sixth and six in the seventh to open up a 9-5 lead. Northwood got two back in the eighth inning and had the tying runs on base in the ninth but were unable to capitalize. Northwood missed on numerous opportunities in the game, leaving 14 runners on base.

Grant Bridgewater (Bay City, Mich./Western) led the Northwood offense in game two, going 4-5 with a double and three RBIs. Wayne Moak (Marysville, Mich.) had two hits and two RBIs, while Smith added a pair of RBIs.

Northwood and Findlay will play another doubleheader Monday (March 30). First pitch is set for Noon.
