RECAP: Derek Clark and Tyler Frankhouse toss a combined no-hitter, giving Northwood baseball a 13-0 win over Indianapolis Sunday afternoon (February 28).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood took the lead thanks to a big second inning, which got going on a Jacob Rybicki solo home run.
  • Later in the inning, David Jeffers stole home to double the advantage.
  • Rhett Evans added a two-run double, followed by a two-run single by Cole Brooks to make it 6-0.
  • Matt Mango rounded out the six-run second with a two-run home run to push the lead to 8-0.
  • Michael Karam made it 9-0 in the third inning with a solo home run.
  • Later in the third, Khale Showers brought home two more with a double that made the score 11-0.
  • One inning later, Lawson Burnett pushed home a run on a single to get Northwood to a 12-0 edge.
  • The final run of the game came in the top of the seventh on a Ryan Chargo solo home run.
  • The story of the game was the performance by freshman lefty Derek Clark. He allowed walks in the fifth and the sixth innings, but those were the only baserunners in the opening seven innings.
  • With one out in the eighth, UINDY's Reid Rector reached on what was initially ruled an infield single. Clark then retired the next two batters to send the game to the ninth.
  • After the play was ruled a hit, Northwood pulled Clark in favor of Tyler Frankhouse, who got the final three outs of the game.
  • Following the game, the scoring decision by Indianapolis was reversed. The infield hit was changed into an error, giving Northwood a no-hitter.
