Jake Sabol Named G-MAC Coach of the Year - Baseball Places School-Record 13 On All-Conference Teams
2023 G-MAC All-CONFERENCE TEAMS
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball program earned numerous honors from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) post season awards, which were announced Wednesday (May 10).
Jake Sabol was named the conference's Coach of the Year. The Timberwolves also placed a school-record 13 student-athletes on the All-Conference teams.
Derek Clark (starting pitcher), Jacob Rybicki (centerfield) and Blake Salamon (utility) all earned First Team honors. Representing Northwood on Second Team was Matt Magno (catcher), Zach Abbey (starting pitcher) and Jayden Dentler (starting pitcher). Kendall Anthes (starting pitcher), Alex Cole (first base), Rhett Evans (second base), David Jeffers (shortstop), Myles Beale (outfield), Jake Jekielek (relief pitcher) and Jake Carroll (relief pitcher) all earned Third Team.
The 13 honorees are the most among the teams in the G-MAC, five more than any other team in the league (Ashland – eight).
Sabol is the second coach in program history to earn a conference coach of the year award. Jordan Bischel earned the GLIAC Coach of the Year in both 2017 and 2018. Northwood finished the regular season with a 36-16 overall record. NU earned the G-MAC regular season title by five games, finishing with a 27-5 conference record.
The Timberwolves will open play in the G-MAC Tournament Wednesday night (May 10) against Kentucky Wesleyan at 6 p.m.
