Baseball Earns Sweep Over Cedarville To Cap 4-0 Weekend

RECAP: Northwood baseball caps a 4-0 weekend with a doubleheader sweep over Cedarville Saturday (March 16), taking game one 3-0 before posting a 13-1 victory in game two.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • Northwood got the scoring going in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Alex Cole to put the Timberwolves on top 1-0.
  • Drew Charters made the score 2-0 in the bottom of the second with an RBI single of his own.
  • NU extended their advantage in the fourth on a Brendan Hammer RBI groundout.
  • That was all the support that Northwood starting pitcher Kendall Anthes would need. He allowed just two his and one walk while striking out six for the complete game shutout.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS (SCHEDULED FOR NINE INNINGS)

  • Northwood opened the game with three straight singles, which led to three runs. Matt Magno got the scoring started with an RBI single.
  • Myles Beale and Blake Salamon followed with run-scoring groundouts to make the score 3-0 after one.
  • Cedarville got on the board in the top of the third with a run to cut the NU advantage to 3-1.
  • The Timberwolves used a double-steal to push the lead to 4-1, as Drew Charters came home while Logan Voth took second.
  • The game was broken open in the bottom of the sixth inning. Northwood had runners of first and second with one out when the Yellow Jackets made errors on three consecutive plays. The first error came when Alex Jarboe pinch-hit for Northwood and hit a ground ball that brought home a run.
  • Three batters later, Logan Voth came up with the bases loaded and connected on his first home run as a Timberwolf. His grand slam made the score 10-1.
  • After a Ben Clark single, Matt Magno homered to center field to get the lead up to 12-1.
  • Salamon then capped the scoring with an RBI single to finish off the nine-run sixth.
  • With the lead up to 12 runs, after the top of the seventh, the game was ended due to the G-MAC run-rule (up 10 after seven innings of a nine inning contest).
