Baseball Places Five On All-Great Midwest Teams

2024 ALL-GREAT MIDWEST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE TEAMS

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball team placed a total of five players on the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), the league announced Wednesday (May 8).

All five honorees for the Timberwolves are seniors: starting pitcher Kendall Anthes, relief pitcher Jake Jekielek, catcher/designated hitter Matt Magno, catcher/designated hitter Blake Salamon all received First Team All-Conference honors. Reliever Jake Carroll was named Second Team All-Great Midwest.

Anthes led Northwood on the mound this season, going 6-0 with a 3.27 ERA. He allowed hits in 63 1/3 innings of work while striking out 56. In his two seasons at Northwood, Anthes has gone 12-2 for the Timberwolves.

Jekielek responded to a slow start to the season to become one of the best relievers in the region. He is 5-2 on the year with a 3.03 ERA and seven saves. Jekielek has a remarkable 48/3 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the year. In G-MAC play, Jekielek has gone 3-0 with four saves and a 1.09 ERA.

Magno wrapped up his historic career at Northwood career by batting .380 with 13 home runs and 58 RBIs. He is currently tied for the G-MAC lead in RBIs while ranking third in home runs. Magno ranks first in school history in games played (221), hits (308) and RBIs (217) while standing second in program history in home runs (34).

Salamon turned in his second consecutive strong season for Northwood, currently batting .357 with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs. He is the all-time leader in program history with 40 career home runs and has the top-two individual home runs seasons in school history (22 in 2023, 15 in 2024). Salamon currently shares the G-MAC lead for home runs this season.

Carroll has been a force out of the back end of the bullpen for the past four years. He currently stands with three wins, two saves and a 3.02 ERA. He has struck out 67 while walking just 11 in 44 2/3 inning of work. In conference play, Carroll has won two games while posting a 1.00 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 27 innings of work.

Northwood is currently competing in the G-MAC Conference Tournament.
