RECAP: Second-seeded Northwood baseball advanced in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament with a 7-6 win over sixth-seed Ohio Dominican Thursday (May 9).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Ohio Dominican took advantage of a balk and a wild pitch in the opening inning to plate the first run of the game.
• Northwood's bats came to live in the bottom of the third inning, starting with a Joey Johnston RBI single.
• Mat Magno followed with an RBI single of his own to give the Timberwolves their first lead of the day at 2-1.
• Blake Salamon then made it three straight RBI singles to give NU a 3-1 lead.
• Drew Charters capped the big third inning with a two-run double to put Northwood on top 5-1.
• ODU hit a two-run homer in the top of the fifth that got the Panthers back within two.
• Salamon responded with an RBI triple in the bottom of the inning to get the NU lead back to three at 6-3.
• The Panthers came through with a two-out, two run single in the top of the sixth to make the score 6-5.
• Magno got the advantage back to two in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single.
• Brennan Hunt of Ohio Dominican connected on his second home run of the game in the top of the seventh to get the Panthers back within one at 7-6.
• Northwood had a great chance to break the game open in the bottom of the eighth, loading the bases with zero outs. But a force out at home followed by a line drive double play kept the score at 7-6.
• Jake Carroll shut the door for Northwood, retiring the final nine batters he faced to give the Timberwolves the win.
