Baseball Defeats Findlay To Advance To G-MAC Tournament Semifinals

RECAP: Second-seeded Northwood baseball advanced to the "A" pool final in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament with a 10-4 win over No. 3 Findlay Thursday night (May 9).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Northwood started the game fast, using doubles by Logan Voth and Matt Magno to take a 1-0 lead three batters into the game.
• Blake Salamon followed with an RBI single to make the score 2-0 after one inning.
• The Oilers got on the board in the top of the third thanks to an RBI double that last lost in the sky by Northwood to cut the lead to 2-1.
• Magno and Salamon teamed up to get Northwood back on the board in the bottom of the third. After a long Magno single off the wall to start the inning, Salamon followed with a two-run home run to right to push the NU advantage to 4-1.
• Findlay scored two in response in the top of the fifth to make the score 4-3.
• Voth keyed another run for Northwood in the bottom of the fifth, connecting on a two-out triple to right field. A Findlay error on the following play made the score 5-3.
• With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Voth once kick started a run for the Timberwolves. His double to right was followed by an RBI single by Joey Johnston that pushed the Northwood lead to 6-3.
• Findlay had a great chance to put up a big inning in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with nobody out. But Northwood reliever Benji Alderson came in and allowed just one run on a sacrifice fly to make the score 6-4.
• Voth continued his big night at the plate in the bottom of the eighth, connecting on his fourth extra base hit of the contest. That double plated Camden Fisher at made the score 7-4.
• Northwood's power hitting duo of Magno and Salamon then broke the inning open. Each hit opposite field home runs to right that plated three more runs and put NU on top 10-4.
