Baseball Opens NCAA Regional With 11-4 Win Over Ashland

RECAP: Fifth-seeded Northwood baseball opened the NCAA Midwest Regional with an 11-4 victory over No. 4 seed Ashland Thursday (May 16).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ashland opened the scoring in the second inning with a single run for a 1-0 advantage.
  • After the Eagles had numerous chances to expand their lead, Northwood broke through with a big sixth inning. The scoring got started on a two-run home run by Blake Salamon.
  • Drew Charters followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Timberwolves on top 3-1.
  • Ben Clark then made the score 4-1 with an RBI single.
  • The rally was capped by a two-run homer by Ben Narr, the first home run of his career, that gave the Timberwolves a 6-1 lead.
  • The Eagles took advantage of a pair of bases loaded walks in the bottom of the seventh that made the score 6-3.
  • Northwood plated insurance runs in the top of the ninth, starting with a solo home run by Logan Voth.
  • After Joey Johnston came home on a wild pitch to make the score 8-3, Myles Beale brought home NU's ninth run on a sacrifice fly.
  • Alex Cole followed with a two-run double that pushed the Northwood advantage up to 11-3.
  • Ashland plated one in the ninth on a bases loaded walk to cap the scoring.
