RECAP: Fifth-seeded Northwood baseball dropped a tough 6-4 game at No. 1 seed Saginaw Valley Friday (May 17).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Saginaw Valley got on the board in the top of the first inning with a single run.
  • The score remained 1-0 until the fourth inning when Blake Salamon got the Timberwolves on the board with his 19th home run of the season, a solo shot to center field.
  • Northwood took its first lead of the day in the later in the fourth on a Ben Narr RBI single.
  • The key stretch of the game came at the start of the sixth inning. SVSU plated five runs, thanks to seven consecutive singles to open the inning, to go up 6-2.
  • SVSU's advantage stayed at 6-2 until the bottom of the ninth inning. With two outs and nobody on, Northwood rallied back. Three straight singles, the last of which was by Logan Voth, brought home Ben Clark to make the score 6-3.
  • Joey Johnston then made it 6-4 with an RBI single of his own.
  • Matt Magno made it five straight singles for Northwood in the ninth, but the game ended after confusion on the base paths resulted in the final out.
