Football Places Nine On All-GLIAC Teams

The Northwood University football team placed nine players on the All-GLIAC team, the league announced Wednesday afternoon (October 14).

Senior safety Fabian Jackson (Gainesville, Ga./North Hall) was named to the First Team Defense.  Senior linebackers Ryan Whittum (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) and Spencer Remtema (Rockford, Mich.) each claimed Second Team All-Defense honors.  Six Timberwolves earned Honorable Mention honors: senior defensive tackle Justin Barnes (Midland, Mich.), senior offensive lineman Matt Broome (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson), junior defensive end Kyle Fikki (Hobe Sound, Fla. / South Fork), junior running back Jordan Jonker (Hudsonville, Mich.), senior tight end Andrew Harig (Fruitport, Mich.) and senior punter Tony Hite (Valparaiso, Ind.)

Jackson became a starter for the Timberwolves in his true freshman season and remained the strong safety starter for his entire career.  Despite missing four games this season, he finished with 32 tackles, three passes defended, one interception, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.  For his career, Jackson finished with 163 tackles, 21 passes defended and five interceptions.

Both Remtema and Whittum turned in productive senior seasons at linebacker for the Timberwolves.  Remtema finished with 89 tackles, six tackles for loss and three passes defended.  Whittum finished with 94 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Northwood finished the season 5-6 overall (4-6 in the GLIAC), a three-game improvement from the 2011 season.
